The field of iPhone applications is of particular interest at present and for the foreseeable future for Mondo Multi Media. With over 4.4 million iPhones sold last year and 1.5 billion apps (short for applications) downloaded in the first year of the iPhone appstore it is the hot business to be in.

The technology media has described the growth in app development and sales as nothing short of a 'goldrush'. It is not uncommon for investors to see 100% return of initial capital in the first 1-2 months of the launch of an app.

Computer usage is down by over 20% on average for smart phone users - they are now using their phones instead. This trend is, according to experts, the future pattern that will emerge as the functionality of the hardware, and therefore capabilities of apps, continue to improve.

As new emerging international markets such as China, India, and Japan continue to open up to sales of iPhone and other smart devices so too will the appetite for the innovative apps that go with them - especially in multiple languages.

At January 22, 2009:
• iPhone sales are up 88 percent from the previous year (they shipped 4.4 million iPhones);

• 22.7 million iPods were sold in the last quarter (although iPod shipments increased 3 percent from the previous year, iPod revenue is down 16% from the previous year); At September 2009 (source New Scientist magazine):

• Over 39% of app users who say 'apps have changed my life'

• 55 minutes is the average time per day apps users spend on apps - about half the time they spend using the phone for calls.

• At July 2009 the average price of an app is $2.57 • 169 new non gaming apps are appearing per day in the appstore
